On this two-day loop tour of Chiang Rai and its province, see the highlights of the north of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. This two-day tour includes the Chiang Dao cave, the Golden Triangle, a boat excursion along the Kok River from Thaton to Chiang Rai, and all of Chiang Rai's famed sites.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1 - Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai

This tour will begin with a pick-up from your Chiang Mai accommodation and a drive the northern route to Chiang Dao. Our first destination will be Chiang Dao, where we will see the Chiang Dao cave system. We'll take a one-of-a-kind lamp-lit tour of the cave's deepest and darkest passages. Then we'll visit the multi-tiered Thaton temple, which has spectacular views of the jungle, and the Mae Kok River valley, which leads to Chiang Rai. Before going on the afternoon activities, we will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch on the banks of the Mae Kok River. Our visit to the distinctive Karen Long Neck will be one of the highlights of the program. This Myanmarese refugee group currently resides in Thailand, and you will have the opportunity to see their community and culture up close. Many of the Long Neck ladies will demonstrate their weaving skills for you, and you'll be able to purchase some of their handcrafted items directly from the maker. It will be time to board the long tail boat for the exciting journey downriver to Chiang Rai after visiting the Long Neck village. This two-hour boat ride will take you through rural landscapes, and you can sit back and relax as the boat pilot guides you. Halfway through the river trip, we'll stop at an Akha village for a break before returning to the boat for the final leg of the journey to Chiang Rai. Our driver will meet you at the pier and transfer you to your hotel in Chiang Rai. In the evening, we can visit Chiang Rai's Night Bazaar, where you can do your own shopping and sample the local cuisine while watching traditional Thai entertainment.

Day 2 - Chiang Rai to Chiang Rai

We'll pick you up from your Chiang Rai hotel and drive in the direction of the Golden Triangle. On the route we will stop at Wat Rong Suea Ten (more commonly referred to as The Blue Temple) as well as the eclectic art and artefact collection at Baan Dam (Black House). Our next stop will be Chiang Saen the location of the old Lanna Kingdom where we will see what remains of Wat Chedi Luang before proceeding to the Mekong River, and the famous Golden Triangle region, where Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand meet. You will have the option of taking a boat trip on the Mekong River and visiting the Laos settlement of Don Xao or just taking in the view of the three countries from one of the viewpoints. Lunch will be served on your return Then we'll go to the Mae Sai border market (a crossing into Myanmar can be arranged on request). On the way back to Chiang Mai, we'll stop at Wat Rong Khun (The White Temple), a masterpiece of a temple still under construction, as well as Mae Kha Jan Hot Springs, before dropping you off at your Chiang Mai hotel.

Doi Tung Option - We can visit Mae Fah Luang Gardens at Doi Tung on day two if required. However to fit this is our busy schedule for the day we will need to make an early departure and be on the road by 07:30 am! 

Note: You will be required to show your original passport if you want to take the boat ride on the Mekong to the Laos side. Please bring this with you if you want to take this option.
