Day 1 - Chiang Mai city tour

Get ready for an early start on day one of this three-day package as we need to get out into the city early to catch the monks go about their early morning alms rounds. You will get to see the lively city of Chiang Mai at this early hour as the city's population goes about its morning business. Amongst the hustle of the morning market, you will get to offer alms (make food offerings) to the monks as they go about their morning alms round. The next part of the morning tour will be to take the winding road up the mountain to Chiang Mai's most prominent and important Temple Doi Suthep. In the morning you will enjoy a more calm and cool visit to this spectacular temple as you will miss the tourist crowds and avoid the heat of the day. After the temple, you will head down the mountain where you will be provided with a local breakfast. After breakfast, we will take in a couple more of the cities interesting temples. You will see Wat Chedi Luang which was once Chiang Mai's highest structure and we will see Wat Srisuphan which is at the heart of the silver-making area on Wualai Rd. Our final stop of the day will be a Warorot Market to see firsthand one of the commercial areas frequented by locals in their droves to purchase fresh and dried food items of all descriptions. As you were awake at an early hour you may be ready to be returned to your hotel this can be arranged however if you did want to extend your tour into the afternoon we can arrange a visit to The Chiang Mai Art and Culture Museum, which lies at the heart of Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai

Day 2 - Doi Inthanon and Pa Dok Siew Nature hike

On day two, you'll need to get up early, especially if you want to visit the Saturday Buffalo Market in Sanpatong! We'll leave Chiang Mai and stop at the weekly Sanpatong Buffalo Market. Buffaloes and a variety of other livestock are traded at this once-weekly event and a vast local market springs up around the trade in buffaloes and other livestock. Doi Inthanon National Park will be the next destination on the itinerary. The Wachiritharn Waterfall will be your first stop, followed by the commencement of the Mae Klang Luang trek. This trek will take you away from the usual tourist route and give you a unique perspective of this magnificent national park. Before reaching the river, the track will first take a forested route downhill. You'll be following the river for a while. The walk will pass by Pa Dok Siew Waterfall, where you can cool yourself by taking a plunge in the refreshing waters at the foot of the falls. The trail will eventually lead to farmland and rice paddies surrounding Mae Klang Luang Karen village. Coffee bushes and rice paddies can be seen in abundance here. We'll stop at a local coffee grinder, where they roast, hand grind, and prepare freshly brewed coffee from the nearby hills. Then it'll be time for lunch. Lunch will be served in a local Karen restaurant, after which you will board the minibus to explore some of Inthanon's other popular landmarks. The two spectacular king and queen pagodas will be seen near the summit of the mountain, and you will be able to take in the sights from this high vantage point. You will walk the Angkha Nature Trail (400m short walk) on the highest part of Doi Inthanon, Thailand's tallest mountain, where you will see a rare diversity of flora that only thrives at this high altitude.

If you haven't seen enough waterfalls, you can visit Mae Ya, Doi Inthanon's largest. (However, during the wet season months, the local authorities close this waterfall as a safety precaution against water surges following heavy rainfall and is not always open to visitors)

Day 3 - Chiang Rai

On the third day, we'll depart Chiang Mai for Chiang Rai Province and the Golden Triangle, which is where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet. After picking you up from your Chiang Mai hotel, your first stop will be Maekhajan hot springs, a great place to pause for a morning cup of coffee before continuing on to Chiang Rai, where you will see the spectacular Wat Rong Khun, also known as The White Temple. The next stop is Chiang Saen, which is located on the banks of the magnificent Mekong River. Chiang Saen was formerly the capital of a powerful northern Thai kingdom, and much of the city's architecture and Buddha images have survived. We'll visit Wat Chedi Luang, one of the better-preserved temples. We'll arrive at the Golden Triangle meeting sites of Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos after a short journey from Chiang Saen. You can take a boat excursion across the Mekong River to the Laotian island of Don Xao from here. The journey will continue to Mae Sai, the Thai border town with Myanmar, which is a great area to go shopping for preserved food products and imports from Myanmar and China. You will also get a peek of Myanmar proper, which is only twenty meters across the river, or we can arrange for you to cross the border into the Myanmar town of Tachkilek if you are feeling more adventurous. On the return to Chiang Mai, we can arrange an option to visit the Long Neck village.

Note: You will be required to show your original passport if you want to take the boat ride on the Mekong to the Laos side. Please bring this with you if you want to take this option.
