You will be collected from your Chiang Mai hotel or guest house and we will proceed to drive towards the Samoeng area. On route, we will stop by at the local market where the guide will buy some fresh supplies for the trip into the hills. The drive will continue to a small elephant camp where you will start your morning's activities with the elephants. You will have some time feeding and getting to know the elephants before joining (optional!) the elephants in their favorite mud pools! After the mud, it will be time to get clean and you will walk the elephants to the river to bathe and scrub the elephants and join them cooling off in the river. At the end of the morning, it will be time to say goodbye to the elephants and lunch will be served at the elephant camp. After lunch it will be time to start the trekking, You will trek for around three hours through the jungle stopping for a refreshing shower/swim at a waterfall. Our final destination of the day will be a White Karen hill tribe village. This village will be where you overnight and your guide will prepare your evening meal. Enjoy the evening with your guide and fellow trekkers.
The local roosters will usually ensure that you arise early in the morning for your breakfast which will be prepared for you by your guide. After breakfast, we will set off for a trek to a further waterfall where we can take a break and cool down. The trek will continue for around one hour to a Shan Village. The Shan village is where you will be picked up and driven to the river where you will embark on a bamboo rafting trip. Wear light clothes as trekking in this part of the world can be hot and sweaty work. Shorts, T shirt and a sun hat are ideal. Long trousers are OK as they will protect your lower legs more but will be hotter to wear. Although hiking boots aren’t a necessity at least a sturdy pair of running shoes should be worn. Some people trek with sandals but they do leave your feet open to be scratched by vegetation also flip flops (thongs) aren’t appropriate as they don't provide enough support. In the rainy season from April to October bring a rain coat. Bring a change of clothes for after the rafting. Please be sensitive about your dress in the hill tribe village short and t shirts are OK but nothing to revealing please.
A small rucksack/day sack, shorts and T shirt for trekking (long trousers if you prefer), A change of clothes (shorts & t shirt) especially useful in the wet season to change into at the end of the day, warm jumper/fleece for cool season, Walking shoes, socks, swimming suit, small towel/sarong, insect spray, sun cream, raincoat (rainy season), some toilet paper, one bottle of water. Some money for drinks and hill tribe crafts. No bedding or sleeping bags are required as we supply all the necessary sleeping equipment.
Free pick up and drop off is included to and from any Chiang Mai city hotel. Sorry we can not pick up from out of town resorts.
